An Introduction Chilled Beams

An introductory overview of the new and emerging cooling technology, previously used extensively throughout Europe, but almost absent on the US.

Chilled Beams offer the advantage of:

  • Very low noise
  • Improved comfort
  • Energy savings
  • Improved ventilation control

The presentation will compare both passive and active beam technology; address how to maximize the energy saving potential; highlight how to choose optimal design parameters… What is the most beneficial criteria to maximize operations performance and how to determine it; and demonstrate applications of this technology, including some do’s and don’t in determining the appropriateness for its applications.

Thursday’s presentation will be by Bob Fagg, Vice President and Director of Engineering for the Washington Office of SmithGroup.  Bob has 37 years of experience in the design and management of complex HVAC systems for large institutional and commercial facilities across the United States.
